The Solution to my Problem
2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
I Need To Be Made New
I need regeneration not reformation. Reformation has to do with making me a better person while regeneration has to do, not with making the Old better, but the creation of a New Person. Regeneration is the creation of a completely New Man.
Not Reformation but Transformation
Reformation is about men and their answers. Reformation is their way of solving spiritual and behavorial problems. Regeneration is about God and the New Life He gives. While reformation rehabilitates the Old Man, regeneration has nothing to do with the Old Man but casts him aside seeing him as fatally wounded.
You Must Be Born Again
Jesus, in speaking with Nicodemus, stated that we must be "born-again". He was speaking of regeneration. He said we must be born of the Spirit. He said real change has nothing to do with how we would do it, but real change is by the Spirit of God. To be born of the Spirit means to be born of God. It means that God Himself recreates you. He births you by His Spirit to New Life; old things are passed away, behold all things become new! This is what regeneration is. It is God, creating a New Man, through the Person of Jesus Christ.
Reformation Does Not Please God
Reformation can look like regeneration. In reformation there is often a dramatic change of behavior. But if the new behavior of reformation is just a re-make of the Old, then reformation is just a make-over of the Old Man. What pleases God is not a make-over, but the death of the Old Man, and then resurrection of a New Man who is joined to the resurrected Christ.
The Bread of Life
Jesus taught that we are not to labor for the bread that would perish. This describes reformation; bread that perishes is bread that is good for the moment, but will not lead to eternal life. He taught that He was the Bread of Life and that if a man would eat of Him that he would never hunger. Reformation leads to a change of behavior, but ends in death. The Bread of Life leads to a change in behavior, but ends in eternal life.
The Water of Life
Jesus in speaking with the woman at the well told her that if she would drink of the water He gave, that she would never thirst again. Again, the message is clear. If you want a real solution to your problem, an eternal fix, then you must come to Jesus.
Programs, therapy, medications, support groups, etc. have their place in ministering to the needs of mankind. But they are limited in what they can do.
- They cannot give a new spirit
- They cannot give a new heart
- They cannot give eternal life
- They cannot save
We Need a Heavenly Fix
Can conventional therapies help the Christian? Without a doubt many Christians are helped by counseling, medications, support groups, etc., but the eternal fix is found in the words spoken by Jesus, "you must be born-again."
Jesus Removes Our Guilt
Guilt cannot be removed by medications or by therapy; guilt is removed only by the atoning work of Christ. This is how Jesus fixes us. He personally removes the guilt of our sins by taking the guilt for our behavior on Himself. He assumes all our guilt and then is slaughtered. He takes all our iniquities, all our wickedness, all our sins, all our failures, all our lies, all our perversions, all the unspeakable acts we have ever committed. He takes the guilt of these acts upon Himself and then goes to the Cross and dies in our place. Because His death removes our guilt we are reconciled to God. This is why reformation can never really fix us; there is no atonement and it does not reconcile us to God. Reformation, does not make the Cross its foundational truth; the Cross alone reconciles, and the Cross alone brings freedom to our soul!
Jesus Gives Real Righteousness
Righteousness is a gift from God. It is not something we do, it is something we are granted. It is a deliverance from law to grace and from sin to righteousness. When we come to God for forgiveness, He forgives, but then He clothes us with His righteousness; He recreates us in His own likeness for we are born of His Spirit. And all by the grace of God. It is a genuine miracle to be made new on the inside. It is something only God can do and He promises to change, and to save, all who will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Any person who comes to Jesus and accepts Him as Lord and Savior, He will not turn away. This is a promise from God and the only real and lasting solution for our heart problem.
John 6:28-29 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Rom. 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
God Bless You,
