Why A Warfare Prayer?
Jude1:20; Romans 12:2; 1Pet 5:8-9
Jud 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1Pe 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
The Warfare Prayer is for War
The Warfare Prayer is for those who find themselves in a daily battle with habits, thoughts, emotions, and/or behavior that prevents them from being the person Christ has called them to be. It is is a starting point for disciplined thinking. We speak the Word of God over our lives because it is the Sword of the Spirit and Darkness cannot stand against it.
We are in a battle with the Devil and his chief weapon is the lie. He, Satan, has the ability to influence our mind, our emotions, and our imagination. Our mind, daily, can be filled with unholy and unclean thinking. We can be tormented as we remember events and people in our past. The Warfare Prayer reminds us that we have power over the thoughts and memories of our past. If we do not know how to control our memory it will bring up old feelings and old thoughts that give darkness an emotional foothold. Our memories, emotions, thoughts, and our imaginations form a powerful complex that, if we do not know how to control, will allow Darkness to manipulate and exploit for their unholy purposes.
Darkness is relentless, and if we do not have an ongoing source of strength, we will become emotionally and spiritually fatigued by the ongoing battle within our mind. The Warfare Prayer is but the first step in the process of taking back our mind and our spiritual health.
We are a New Creation in Christ Jesus and we need to strengthen our faith by speaking the Word of God over our life. We speak to our mind and we do not allow it to wander or think any thought. We have a holy purpose so we discipline our mind to think thoughts that are true and that bring health.
The words we speak are themselves powerful weapons against darkness for we are saying what God says. Darkness has no inherent right to control or manipulate our thinking, or our life; the only power they have is what we give them. They cannot overcome the Power of God, and they cannot overcome what He said, for Jesus defeated them.
Jesus proved to all creation that He was God, He proved He was more powerful than Satan, and He proved His Word to be true. His resurrection openly and definitively proved His absolute victory over Satan who held the power of Death, and in addition, His resurrection secured the absolute victory of His purchased possession over all the power of Darkness.
The Warfare Prayer helps us renew our mind by giving structure to our thinking. We remind ourselves hourly/daily of what is really true. We cannot allow our thoughts to wander, we cannot trust our mind to rule itself. We cannot allow our heart to want any pleasure, but we must order our heart. We cannot allow ourselves to think, feel, or want just anything, but we must order our complete person to follow the Lord. We discipline ourselves intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally by the Word of God.
By saying what is true we bathe our mind in the truths of God's Word. If our mind is renewed by the Word then can recognize and resist the lie when it comes. The Word of God is the ground upon which we stand, and when spoken over our lives, it becomes our source of spiritual strength. The Word heals and it delivers.
By saying what the Lord says about our new identity in Christ we plant the Word of God in the soil of our heart; through faith we come into agreement with Almighty God. As we speak Truth over our lives, our minds are renewed and we are daily strengthened to recognize and resist the powers of Darkness.
Darkness, if confronted with Scripture, will submit to the redemptive victories of Christ. They have no choice for Christ has defeated them and all their power. Every demon and every devil must submit to the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, i.e., the atoning, justifying, and sanctifying work Christ purchased for His people. They cannot stop the Christian from being joined to and sanctified by Christ; Darkness cannot stop the Christian from putting on the New Man who, after God, is created in righteousness and true holiness. Jesus Christ personally secures the sanctification of every Christian. Our part is to possess, through faith the sanctifying work of Christ over every part of our life - our decisions, choices, behaviors, attitudes, emotions, desires, and our imaginations.
Our sanctification proves Jesus to be greater than Satan. Jesus promised to finish the work He started. Our sanctification shows the blood to be more powerful than sin, and that salvation is indeed real. The Warfare Prayer is a summary of scriptural truths, a daily reminder of what God says remembering our Enemy devises lying strategies to manipulate and cloud what is real and true.
God bless you,
